Solitär's training with Heike started in 1987. Effortless really, if it hadn't been for the piaffe. But with the support of crafty Johann Hinnemann this difficulty could be overcome and Solitär finally mastered the complete programme. Due to a special quirk he was nicknamed "lip". When he stood tethered in the stable alley he used to play with his lower lip and to toss his head up and down. Beauvalais observed this behaviour closely. After a short while he suddenly tried to imitate Solitär and busily practised head and lip movements. But he simply didn't manage. After Solitär was sold in 1993 he forgot this exercise – thank God.
