Heike tried 6-year-old Serpico in Dirk Haese's stable. There simply was something special about the tall, elegant gelding. At first he found it difficult to perform the piaffe but with the help of Johann Hinnemann and well thought-out work in hand and on the double lunge the "penny" eventually dropped. The chequebook was full of victories and placings when Heike sold him at the age of 13.
