29 September Discussion at Hanover Town Hall: "Leave Thinking to Horses, Their Heads are Bigger..."

IMan and horse look back on 40000 years in common. Horses were regarded as food at first, they were hunted and later used as workers. But on the whole the relationship man-horse has long since changed. What is so special about this relationship? And are horses really as intelligent as the vernacular would have it?
Under this heading the Lord Mayor has invited to the discussion “Science at the Town Hall” on 29 September. First at 5 p.m. the police riding squad of Hanover will present their skills on the lawn of the new town hall, and after the address of welcome by Lord Mayor Stephan Weil at 5:45 p.m. the interesting subject will be discussed by Prof. Dr. med. vet. Karsten Feige – Head of the clinic for horses of the Foundation Veterinary University Hanover – , Dr. Konstanze Krüger – Sociobiologist at Regensburg University, field of research Social Learning and Cognition of Horses – , Norbert Rabe – head of the police riding squad of Hanover – , and Heike. The afternoon will be moderated by Ulrike Heckmann, NDR Info.

Achaz von Buchwaldt, Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst, Klaus Balkenhol, Ingrid Klimke, Jos Lansink, Nadine Capellmann, Holger Wulschner, Frank Rothenberger and many, many other well-known riding greats strive at the Mercedes-Benz Riders Panels to impart better knowledge about the horse as partner not only to professionals but also to amateurs, hobby or tournament riders. This knowledge is the basis for the daily contact with horses. In September Heike will impart her knowledge to the audience on several occasions in her lecture on “The Daily Training and the Relaxed Handling of the Horse”.

Thanks! ...

...to all who supported Bonaparte and myself by keeping their fingers crossed, with their thoughts and hundreds of text-messages, and many other things during our stay in Hong Kong.

My sincere thanks also for the many, many congratulations, flowers, and presents which awaited me on my return. Loyal fans who always support you are something very precious.

Special thanks to my family, my friends, and my entire team without whose constant and loyal commitment these successes wouldn't have been possible after all.

Walle Honours its Medalist

In the most beautifully decorated rooms of the old KK-Stand at the local shooting club the Olympic athlete was welcomed by about 300 guests, among them many people from Walle and Winsen, friends, trainers and others ready to greet and celebrate. The "centre of attention" drove up in a carriage and much enjoyed the party.
"Everyone lent a hand here, otherwise such a great reception would hardly have been possible in so short a time. The atmosphere was very affectionate, and just as in 2004 when I was received in this very place for the team gold medal in Athens, I thought everything was very appealing this time as well. It was great fun to celebrate with my friends, the people from Walle and everyone present. In order to see that again in 2012 hopefully, I will exercise particularly hard now", Heike laughed after the fine party.

A Single Medal at the Olympic Games – An Absolute Dream Come True for Heike

"Good Vibrations" – the main title of Heike's freestyle was today's motto. 75,95% in the freestyle and the lead after the Special sufficed – the Bronze Medal was Heike's to take home. Her commentary: "I'm not able to say much right now… It is simply unbelievable. But almost more important is that Boni went through all this absolutely chipper and that I can go home with a horse that is as fit as a fiddle. Next to the huge joy about the medal this is simply the best that could happen to me."

Another Successful Ride with Boni

72.96% and place 3 in the ranking of the 25 Grand Prix Special participants brought Heike a lot nearer to her dream of winning a single medal. Elegantly, fleet-footed and in secure contact Boni mastered the test. The scores of the Special are added to those of the Freestyle and result in the medal ranks. After the ride Heike concentrated on the next test already: "If our Freestyle turns out just as good, then. No, I don't want to think about it. First I have to ride the Freestyle, then we'll see."

Team Gold Accomplished

Once again the German team, consisting of Isabell Werth with Satchmo, Nadine Capellmann with Elvis and of course Heike with Bonaparte won team gold by a clear margin. Isabell was the last to start and caught up with the then leading Dutch team that had already finished their three rides. 72.916 points and Gold for Germany, 71.750 points and Silver for the Netherlands and 68.875 Punkte and thus Bronze for Denmark. "Boni and I were the first starters for the team score. The day before already he was feisty and in excellent mood. The floodlights, the big screen, and the evening atmosphere spurred him on even more on the day of the test and he presented himself simply super. 72.25% brought us the lead in the first part of the team score. Nadine and Isabell attacked on day 2 and completed the victory for the team. I'm very proud of our team, whether rider or horse, everyone did a super job", Heike said happily.

The first dressage competition, the Team Grand Prix, will start with its first part August 13.

Quarantine in Aachen

For one week starting this Friday the motto is: Training in quarantine. The members of the dressage team will be stationed in Aachen for a week before they travel on to Hongkong by plane on 25 July.

01 - 06 July
Ticket Aachen - Hongkong

The second and last review before the Olympic Games was mastered successfully by Heike and Bonaparte. The two were convincing with their two good places and secured themselves the Olympic ticket alongside Isabell Werth with Satchmo and Nadine Capellmann with Elvis. Substitute rider will be Monica Theodorescu with her Whisper. "Actually I always firmly believed in our nomination but when the time has come and you're riding the review there is quite a bit of excitement. Boni was in a very good mood and keen but in the Special an unnecessary riding mistake slipped in. In the final Freestyle he was a bit tense but went through all the movements. That cost us precious points in this test, of course. All in all Boni was in excellent shape and I think that we have a good chance to attack in Hongkong", Heike said, delighted about her nomination.
