At this year's German Championships in Sauerland Balve the dressage ladies were good for some suspense. Since due to the Olympic Games later this year the schedule required only two tests for the championship score, the riders started first in the Grand Prix. Bonaparte was at ease and very keen but minor mistakes were sneaking in which finally led to place four. In the freestyle the two showed themselves at their best. Buoyant and relaxed they presented the movements to hits from the sixties. The strong applause from the audience at the end of the test |

| almost suggested victory, but in the end it was a very good second place for the test and silver in the championship. The cheering at any rate confirmed Heike's opinion: "That was good. Everything worked, everything was in the right place ˜ and with expression. I'm thrilled that everything turned out so well for us this weekend. Here in Balve are not just the German Championships , the tournament is also the first review regarding Hongkong so that we simply had to make a good impression and get to the podium – and we did". Directly afterwards the dressage committee nominated the team for the Nation's Cup in Aachen: Nadine Capellmann with Elvis, Heike Kemmer with Bonaparte, Matthias Alexander Rath with Sterntaler-Unicef and Isabell Werth with Satchmo. in the canter tour. It's simply my own fault. But anyway, I am content, since Bonni is in great shape and presented himself all relaxed and at ease throughout the weekend. That's what matters most. St. Tropez was good fun as well and confirmed that we are on the right path. For the next weekend I have entered a smaller tournament hereabouts. I will make use of that then to work on my mistakes", said Heike - slightly smiling. |

01 - 04 May "Royal Rubin" - Most Successful Horse at Hamburg Dressage-Derby
![]() |
Many were surprised by Rudi's performances in Hamburg. So was Heike who at first hadn't expected such a successful outcome. "But my confidence grew with every day and every test", said Heike. "After the Grand Prix-test on Friday I felt sure that this had been my best performance with Rudi so far. Accordingly the judges gave us 70,833% and place 3. He did all the movements very smoothly and securely, was easy to lead and incredibly ambitious. He really wanted to do his very best. But the freestyle on Saturday crowned it all, he gave everything. The judges' decision, the even 76% and place 2, made me really happy. Because of the upcoming change of horses on Sunday I didn't ride him in much and just limbered him up. Fresh and chipper he went through the freestyle, was very responsive, and I knew that he had enough strength left for Sunday to go through the Derby." With her competitors Isabell Werth and Kristy Oatley Heike started in the Derby with change of horses on Sunday - a rather unique test within the German tournament scene. his own horse but also those of his competitors in an abbreviated Grand Prix. Rudi showed himself at his best and marched through the arena with the greatest of ease with all three riders. Those three rounds, his rideability and also his charm earned him the title of "Most Successful Derby Horse". The much-desired "Blue Ribbon" for the most successful finalist went to Isabell Werth and settled her fifth victory of this Derby. Heike seized place 2 and Kristy Oatley came third. "It was interesting to see Rudi under another rider for a change. That it worked so well confirms that I gave him a sound and solid fundamental schooling, and on top of that he has rideability and an absolutely great character. My father discovered him as a foal and brought him to Amselhof. Like Bonaparte he went through his schooling stages and is now on Grand Prix level. That makes me very, very proud", Heike said after the Derby. |

"Bonaparte was already well relaxed and in good shape during the training over the past weeks, and he showed this in the tests as well. I'm very glad that the first start of the season went so well. I'm also really happy about the placings of St.Tropez. Our “fine tuning” is constantly improving so that he can put many things into action much faster now", said Heike after the show.

Off to the Sun – Clinic on the Premises of Dos Lunas in Sotogrande
Situated near Malaga are the beautiful riding premises Dos Lunas. In the spacious grounds for dressage riders Heike taught her 10 students under Spanish sun. "The riders are on a really high level and the horses are also very good. The basic knowledge is there so that we can go on quite rapidly to the fine tuning and the further development of the pairs. Many good German juniors are also here who all ride very well and whose horses are in very good training condition. The entire atmosphere is simply a dream, and regarding the bad weather at home this time of the year an excursion into the sun like this is a very special treat", said Heike during her stay.
