Holger Schmezer was mostly responsible for young Gottberg's success. Gottberg stayed in his stable in the west whereas Heike rode other horses in Berlin. Not before 1983 did she concentrate on the gelding and present him and Lotus successfully in tournaments.

Until Gottberg was rising 17 the two appeared in Grand Prix tests. Afterwards he went to his breeder for the niece of whom he was used as a training horse.
At the age of 30, he was still living in his breeder's barn, Hubertus Roßmann.
